OPEN CALL FOR PROJECTS

The City of Rome is applying for Round 9 of the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), and Round 4 of NY Forward. The Project Team is seeking proposals for potential projects to be included in the City’s applications to progress the Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) implementation strategies.

 

If you have a project idea and/or partners interested in investing into a project, we want to hear from you.

Project proposals must be received by:

 Friday October 24, 2025 

DRI 2.0 Target Area Map

Funding Potential: $10 Million

As a project boundary area is required by New York State, the projects will focus on the area in and around the above map.

This area includes the canal waterfront and East Dominick Street neighborhoods.

NY Forward Target Area Map

Funding Potential: $4.5 Million

This area includes W. Dominick Street and Erie Boulevard neighborhoods.

Eligible Project Types

Public Improvements Projects such as streetscape and transportation improvements, recreational trails, new and upgraded parks and plazas etc. Potential Rome projects: Bellamy Harbor Park and Pinti Field upgrades

New Development and/or Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings for mixed-use, commercial, or public uses. Potential Rome projects: residential unit development, brownfield redevelopment, new hotel construction, redevelopment of the former Columbus School

​

Small Project Fund such as facade improvements, building renovations to commercial or mixed use spaces, public art, business assistance funds, etc. Potential Rome projects: Main Streets Business Program, NYS Canal focused art installations

Branding and Marketing projects that target residents, investors, developers, tourists, and/ or visitors. Potential Rome projects: Implement Marketing Strategy from the Downtown BOA​​​

Public Engagement Opportunities

We want your input! Choose any of the following engagement methods listed below to help us: 

  • Create a vision for revitalization in the two specified areas

  • Identify needs, opportunities, and potential projects

  • Provide feedback on strategic sites

Public Open House

Stop into the open house anytime from 6pm-8pm to speak with staff about the two applications.
