Project Background

The Muck Road Boat Launch was identified as an area of strategic site development in the 2020 Erie Boulevard Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Nomination Study.

The Muck Road Boat Launch site is a water-based recreational amenity for the Rome community and provides a boat launch and pavilion for public use. This site is strategic due to the potential to enhance and improve access to the Erie Canal and other public amenities. These improvements are intended to provide the public a safe and convenient space to enjoy the waterfront and attract additional visitors to the City of Rome for water-based recreational use.

*The design project was made possible with funding provided by the New York State Department of State under the Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program.

Public Engagement

Meeting 1:

The first meeting took place on June 11, 2024 where consultants collected feedback as to what the community wanted to see in regards to boat launch improvements and a new trail along Muck Road.

Meeting 2:

The second public meeting took place Monday, September 23, 2024 and gathered feedback from the public regarding proposed improvements for both projects.

Both meetings were open-house style format allowing the public to stop in at any time to learn more about the projects and to provide feedback and suggestions
